If your nursing license was suspended, an attorney can help you get it back. Reinstatement is a very long, frustrating process. The Board is in no hurry to reinstate your license, but you must be patient and persistent.
Barbara Forshier returned to law school after working as a Registered Nurse (RN) for 25+ years. Her wealth of experience allows her to fight for nurses who have their licenses suspended unfairly.
Reinstatement is a Lengthy Process
The Board can make mistakes. You worked hard for your license and care for your patients, but the Board must also protect the public. While not impossible, you can expect the process to take a long time.
Critical steps must be followed in the process to reinstate your license:
- Work with a nursing license attorney. An attorney who has experience will start with first understanding what led to the suspension. The complaint and facts that led to suspension must be 100% understood. Subsequent steps will depend on all of these factors.
- The terms of your suspension must be met prior to the time you petition for reinstatement. You may need to complete any of the counseling or continuing education requirements as part of your requirements before proceeding.
- You will have to complete all continuing education unit (CEU) requirements for the time you were suspended prior to re-registration.
- Documentation that you met the requirements you were given during suspension must be gathered. Since your suspension is unique, you may need to gather documents from the court, course instructor or even from a counselor. Official documentation showing that you complied will be necessary.
- The Board of Nursing’s requirements for the length of time before you can seek reinstatement will be in your board order. For example, you may be required to be sober for 12 months, and if you’re only six months in, you’ll need to wait until you meet the 12-month requirement.
- Deadlines will need to be met to be considered for reinstatement. If your nursing license was suspended, the Board has the right to deny your reinstatement if you fail to meet certain conditions.
- An attorney will help you submit your reinstatement application.
- A reinstatement hearing may be required. If so, you’ll have the right to present your case to the Board.
- Barbara Forshier may request to settle your reinstatement without a conference.
Next, the waiting period begins. You may be left waiting for months after your petition.
As you can see, the entire process is lengthy. Filing your reconsideration request is crucial to getting your license back, and you must be diligent and persistent.
